Italian Lakes

  • In 1810, Count Francesco Melzi d'Eril built a summer residence on the banks of Lake Como. Aristocrats, artists and royalty came from far and wide to admire the neoclassical villa and sprawling English-style gardens. Over 200 years later, Lake Como is still a playground for the rich and famous; and as you stare out over the cool, crisp water it’s easy to see why.

    Exceptional Experiences

    • Enjoying a glass of renowned Piedmont wine on the outdoor terrace of Hotel Verbano as the moon reflects off the surface of Lake Maggiore
    • Sail to the Sanctuary of Saint Catherine, one of the most stunning hermitages of northern Italy on your own private boat

  • Hotel Barchetta - Como

Facing the world’s most romantic lake and framed by both the cathedral and the town centre, Hotel Barchetta puts you in the heart of Como. The aim here is to make you feel right at home, but at the same time keeping you close to the action. If your Euros are burning a hole in your pocket, step outside to a wide range of designer shopping and a choice of the world’s finest cashmere and silk products on your doorstep. If you prefer a more active pace, there are seven golf courses nearby. With a focus on comfort and style, the hotel itself has undergone an elegant restoration to blend perfectly with its location in the Piazza Cavour. Each of the spacious, light-filled rooms has a balcony where you can enjoy views of either the lake, the city or the cathedral. Taste and imagination are the order of the day when it comes to furnishing, and you’ll enjoy a long soak in the tub at the end of the day.

  • Borgo le Terrazze - Bellagio

If we had to take a guess, we think your favourite memory from Borgo Le Terrazze will be swimming in the huge protruding pool, which has been beautifully designed to give the impression that you are floating on Lake Como. It is a truly unique experience, especially when you follow your swim with a dip in the heated hydro massage Jacuzzi. Occupying an enviable position on Vergonese Hill, the hotel puts you in complete harmony with your surroundings. Wake to views of Villa Melzi and Villa Serbelloni on one side and Villa Carlotta on the other. Your Junior Suite boasts large windows to ensure you never miss a thing, with air conditioning, satellite TV and Internet access.

  • Hotel Ristorante Verbano

It’s impossible not to be swept up in the romance of this charming little hotel. You’re not alone – over the years it has been the inspiration for countless artists, writers and poets who have left behind their touching tributes. It’s the little things that will leave the biggest impression here – a simple breakfast, a relaxing stroll or winding down with a regional wine from the well-stocked cellar. Might we suggest a red from the nearby hills of Ghemme, or perhaps a white from Erbaluce di Caluso in the Northern Piedmont region? All the rooms are named after a flower, which has helped to inspire the décor. You’ll wake to views over the lake and both Isola Bella and Isola Madre. As for the hotel itself, it sits in the enviable location on Isoladei Pescatori (Fishermen’s Island) in the heart of the Borromeo Gulf.

  • Hotel San Rocco - Lake Orta

Relaxation is the order of the day here, and you can get started straight away with a dip in the open-air swimming pool, a round on the golf course or a pampering treatment in the spa. When you’re feeling suitably settled, it’s time to drink in your surroundings. Situated near the picturesque Lake Orta, you are surrounded by views of the island of San Giuliano and the walls of an ancient monastery. You are just a five minute walk from the medieval villages and picturesque valleys of Orta San Giulio, and a sense of history abounds. When it’s time to retreat to your room you can make the most of a private ensuite, satellite TV and Internet. The interior of the hotel is beautifully finished with antique furniture and original artworks, and during the summer we think your favourite place might just be Bar Mezzeluna, which hosts some fabulous musical events.

  • Enhance your journey

To compliment your journey, we recommend adding Roman Break, Splendours of Capri & Amalfi or Tuscan Trails to the beginning or end of your tour.
