Mystical Myanmar

The Lord Buddha is said to have passed through here sometime between 500 ~ 550BC, and the stories of his journey are retold in the many cities, pagodas and golden statues you will see on this journey.

  • The Strand - Yangon

This grand old dame has not only aged gracefully, but sets a new benchmark in refined elegance. Built in 1901 on the banks of the Yangon River, it combines classic luxury and colonial style in a way that makes you feel instantly at home. We love bringing our travellers here as The Strand is not just somewhere to lay your head, it’s an experience in itself. Speaking of laying your head, there’s no finer place in the country to do it. Expect luxury bathrooms, high ceilings, teakwood floors, hand-carved wood framed beds and ceiling fans whirring lazily overhead - all beautifully accompanied by Burmese lacquerware and antiquities. Every desire is at your fingertips, with a butler servicing each floor of the hotel and highly trained therapists in The Spa to knead away any remnants of jetlag. When you’re refreshed and ready to see the city, downtown Yangon is just a short walk away. The Strand Bar is a Yangon institution, graced by the likes of Kipling, Somerset Maugham and George Orwell. When you’ve got a G&T in hand you’ll feel as if you’re part of the club.

  • Aureum Inle Resort, Inle Lake

Inle Lake is such an incredible, iconic part of Burma that we believe every Reserve traveller should wake to views of it. That’s why we chose Aureum Inle Resort, perched right on the water’s edge. Each of the spacious villas boasts a private terrace or balcony so you won’t miss a moment of watching daily life unfold on the lake before sunset over the hills beyond. Make the most of a sumptuous spa and beauty parlour, take a splash in the pool or simply sit back and enjoy your surroundings. This is Burma at its finest.

  • RV Paukan

This floating boutique hotel was called Paukan after the ancient name of Bagan. To climb aboard is like stepping back in time, thanks to a clever design in the style of a classic river steamer. Settle into your spacious outward facing cabin with its beautiful wood panelling, rich colour scheme and traditional fabrics. Wake in the morning and step out onto the promenade in front of your cabin to watch life unfold on the Irrawaddy River. With its welcoming blend of colonial and traditional Burmese style, your floating home also offers two massage rooms on the lower deck and a sun deck boasting a stage for cultural performances, a lounge for relaxation and a bar for fun. Head to the upper deck with its movie screening room, complete with LCD projector and TV screen.

  • Aureum Palace - Bagan

We couldn’t let you visit Bagan without also staying at its most luxurious resort. To wake up at Aureum Palace is to find yourself in a world of elegance with the ancient pagoda-studded landscape at your doorstep. With a sprawling 27 acres at their disposal, the owners have spared no expense in bringing you the ultimate in indulgence. One of our favourite spots is the viewing tower, although then again it might be the sushi bar or even the huge swimming pool framed with palm trees. It’s impossible to decide! Each of the roomy 72 villas has a lavish bathroom and has been decorated with museum-quality antiques, rich fabrics and local handicrafts. The entire compound is reminiscent of an ancient oriental settlement with large teak columns and red bricks, roofed with teakwood shingles. Pamper yourself at one of the six spa suites offering traditional Thai or Myanmar massage, body scrubs facials and foot reflexology. There’s no better place to get to know your travelling companions than the bar or lounge, where you can enjoy sunset drinks or a spot of afternoon tea at your leisure.
